At least 13 people were killed and 98 others injured after the Interoceanic Train derailed in Mexico’s southern state of Oaxaca, authorities reported. Thirty-six of the injured were hospitalized on Sunday, while the rest sustained non-serious injuries, according to the Secretariat of the Navy. The Secretariat expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims. In response to the disaster, the institution deployed 360 naval personnel, 20 vehicles, four ground ambulances, three air ambulances, and a tactical drone for search and rescue operations. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed the casualties in a social media post, stating that five of the injured were in serious condition and were being treated at various hospitals. She also instructed officials to personally attend to the families of the victims and coordinate response efforts. The Secretariat reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the Mexican population and vowed to collaborate with authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the derailment.
