15% Co-Payment Fee for High-Income Aasandha Users from January

Health ·
The Ministry of Health has announced that from January next year, a 15% service fee will be charged under the Aasandha health insurance scheme for individuals earning more than MVR 60,000 per month who seek treatment at private healthcare facilities. The decision follows a Cabinet decision made in September last year to change the system so that high-income earners contribute towards their medical costs. The announcement was published in the Gazette last night and includes exemptions for doctors, technical medical staff, pilots, aviation technical staff, engineers, and technical staff in science fields. The government has stated that this measure will save MVR 287 million annually. Services for overseas treatment under Aasandha will continue without additional fees for those eligible.
