15,059 Individuals Registered for Social Assistance: Majority Face Physical Disabilities

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has released data indicating that 15,059 individuals have been registered for social assistance this year. The majority of these individuals are facing physical disabilities, making up the largest group in need. According to the data, more men than women are registered, with 8,736 males and 6,323 females. The age group with the highest number of registrations is between 18 to 64 years old, totaling 7,653 individuals. Additionally, 5,099 children under 18 and 2,307 seniors aged 65 and above are included in the list. Physical disabilities are the most common reason for registration, accounting for 4,223 individuals. Other significant groups include those with multiple disabilities (3,396 individuals), psychological disabilities (2,116 individuals), and hearing impairments (1,871 individuals). The government has increased the financial aid for individuals with disabilities from MVR 2,000 to MVR 3,000 per month, and efforts are underway to establish a database to better support those in need.
