20 Maldivian Students Win Prestigious Australia Awards for Master's Degrees

Politics ·
Twenty Maldivian students have received Australia Awards Scholarships to pursue Master's degrees at universities across Australia. The prestigious scholarships were formally presented at a ceremony where Minister of Social and Family Development Dr. Aishath Shiham, herself an Australian alumnus, handed certificates to the recipients. According to the Australian High Commission in the Maldives, the students will commence their studies next year across diverse academic fields including finance, economics, social work, law, cyber security, policy studies, development studies, and oceanography. The Commission highlighted that scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students have expanded significantly, with awards increasing from just eight in 2022 to twenty this year. The scholarship ceremony also celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Vibrant Maldives Australia Alumni Association, marking a decade of networking and professional development for Maldivians who studied in Australia. Since the 1960s, more than 750 Maldivian students have pursued higher education in Australia through both scholarship programs and self-funded study opportunities.
