22-Year-Old Arrested in Male’ with Drugs and Over MVR 69,000

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Male’ by the Maldives Police Service during an operation aimed at curbing drug smuggling. The suspect, identified as Mohamed Jaaif Abdullah from S. Feydhoo, was taken into custody after officers recovered 35 grams of suspected drugs and over MVR 69,000 in cash from a residence in the Galolhu ward under a court order. Jaaif was brought before the court for a remand hearing and has been ordered to remain in custody for 15 days. Police confirmed that the case remains under investigation. Drug-related offenses continue to pose significant challenges in the Maldives, with many young individuals being arrested annually in connection with such cases.
