The first batch of the National Service Initial Training in the Maldives concluded with 344 students graduating from the programme. Launched on 1 October by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the initiative aims to strengthen national spirit and Islamic values among youth. Initially starting with 350 participants, the three-month programme covered nationalism, responsible citizenship, religious education, leadership, language proficiency, physical fitness, and character development. Additional training included first aid, firefighting, self-defence, camping, and military-related activities. The Ministry of Defence is preparing for the second batch, set to begin in January with another 350 participants. From January, the government will also introduce vocational and technical training under the National Service, allowing graduates to pursue skills-based training based on their interests and course availability.
