The batch includes 287 male and 64 female trainees. They are aged between 16 and 28. The trainees are from 126 islands across 20 atolls.
The 14-week training is being conducted at the MNDF Composite Training Centre established in L. Maafilaafushi.
The National Service Initial Training is aimed at new members joining the Maldivian national service. The training covers Maldivian nationality, responsible citizenship, religious education, ethics and conduct, leadership and physical fitness, as well as various fields needed in life.
Its main objective is to build a self-confident, strong in faith, spiritually and physically healthy, patriotic and responsible young generation. Maintaining the Maldivian national service movement in a sustainable manner is one of the government's most important policies related to building youth, PSM reported.
Every trainee who completes the programme will receive a certificate of completion of National Service Initial Training. Trainees who complete the Civic Education and Leadership, Community Volunteer Firefighter, Basic First Aid and Peer Education Training components will also receive certificates in those areas. The training will run for 14 weeks.
So far, three batches of the National Service basic training have been completed, including 1,028 young people.
