The third batch of the National Service has officially commenced its initial training, marking a new phase in the government's initiative to cultivate a disciplined and responsible youth population across the Maldives.
Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy inaugurated the programme at the Maafilaafushi Composite Training Centre. This cohort consists of 352 cadets representing 112 islands, comprising 288 males and 64 females. The intensive training programme is scheduled to run for 15 weeks.
As part of the opening ceremony, the National Service Initial Training Centre’s Chief Instructor, Captain Mohamed Husham Moosa, administered the oath for instructors, while the cadets' oath was led by Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Shahid.
The programme is a cornerstone of a national initiative led by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Its primary objective is to instill core values based on Islamic principles and foster a sense of civic duty among the youth. The curriculum is designed to be comprehensive, blending military-style discipline with essential life skills.
Training components include character development, behavioral activities, and basic military orientation. Cadets will also undergo practical instruction in firefighting, self-defense, first aid, and various camp-based activities to build resilience and teamwork.
Upon successful completion, graduates will earn a suite of certifications to validate their skills. These include the National Service Initial Training completion certificate, a Civil Education and Leadership Certificate, and specialized certifications in Peer Education and Basic First Aid. Additionally, participants will be certified as Community Volunteer Firefighters, providing them with tangible skills to serve their respective island communities.
