Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has announced that 55 new council office buildings will be completed and operational by June 2026. The minister shared this development timeline through a recent social media update.
A total of 105 islands across the Maldives are scheduled to receive new council offices as part of this initiative. Currently, 55 council buildings are under construction through a contract with Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Pvt Ltd (RCC), utilizing a contractor-financing model that streamlines the development process.
The remaining 50 council offices will be developed with grant assistance from the Chinese government, with construction expected to commence early next year. These structures will be pre-fabricated buildings, allowing for faster completion times while maintaining quality standards.
The comprehensive project represents a significant infrastructure upgrade for local governance throughout the Maldives. By providing modern, functional office spaces, the government aims to enhance administrative efficiency and service delivery at the island level.
According to government projections, 75 percent of all council offices across the Maldives will be completed by the end of 2026. This timeline reflects the administration's commitment to strengthening local governance infrastructure and improving public service accessibility across the archipelago.
