62-Year-Old Maldivian Arrested for Swallowing 427 Grams of Drugs to Smuggle into Maldives

A 62-year-old Maldivian man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle drugs into the country by swallowing them. The suspect, identified as Ahmed Naseer from Hazarumaage, V. Fulidhoo, was taken into custody by police. According to the Criminal Court’s remand order issued yesterday, Naseer was intercepted upon his arrival in the Maldives. Officers found 19 capsules believed to contain drugs in his stomach, weighing a total of 427 grams. The court determined that the large quantity of drugs posed a risk to public safety and ordered Naseer to be remanded until the conclusion of his trial. Police have charged him with trafficking drugs into the Maldives.
