73 Youth Graduate from National Service Technical Training to Enter Industrial Workforce
World ·
A total of 73 students have graduated from the second batch of the Maldivian National Service Technical Training Programme, reinforcing the government's strategy to equip the nation's youth with high-demand industrial skills.
The intensive 16-week course, which ran from June 3 to October 3, was designed for individuals who had already completed their National Service Initial Training. The graduating class includes 60 men and 13 women representing 17 atolls across the archipelago, with nearly all enrolled students successfully meeting the graduation requirements.
Participants underwent rigorous training in critical technical sectors, including Marine and Automobile Engineering, Electrical Work, Welding, Metal Fabrication, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, and Office Management. These courses were delivered by experienced military instructors, and graduates were awarded Level 3 certificates recognized by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA).
This latest cohort brings the total number of skilled graduates from the technical program to 136 in just nine months. The initiative is moving rapidly, with the third training batch scheduled to begin on October 12.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced further expansions to the program's scope. The administration plans to integrate additional technical disciplines into the curriculum and introduce National Service Internship Programmes. These internships are specifically designed to bridge the gap between classroom training and active employment in the job market.
The Maldivian National Service is a flagship initiative launched by President Muizzu to foster patriotism, Islamic ethics, and a spirit of national pride. By combining civic duty with vocational training, the program aims to build a more resilient workforce. To date, the broader National Service initiative has successfully trained more than 1,000 students across three batches.
