Eighty-four young people departed today to begin training as part of the third batch of the National Service Programme, the 'Vathani Hithun' initiative announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The National Service Programme announced by President Muizzu is aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 28.
In a post on social media today, the President said that among the young people who completed the third round of the Vathani Hithun service programme — launched by the government to build a group that is self-confident, strong in faith and responsible — 84 young people came forward to take part in vocational training.
President Muizzu also said that the young people taking part at the MNDF School of Engineering and Logistics established in B. Kihaadhoo come from 44 islands across 17 atolls of the Maldives, and that they comprise 64 males and 20 females.
President Muizzu announced that people would be trained for National Service at the Victory Day ceremony held in 2024.
The President said that day that more people are still needed in order to advance the work of the military in the way he wishes.
When the National Service Programme begins, the government will give an allowance of MVR 6,000 to each participant. As a result, at least MVR 2.1 million will be spent each month for this purpose.
