The digitalisation of the national health insurance system is set to dramatically accelerate service delivery by eliminating the administrative bottlenecks caused by manual processing, Aasandha Managing Director Aminath Zeeniya announced. Speaking on the PSM News programme 'Raajje Miadhu', Zeeniya highlighted that the current reliance on physical forms and manual registers is the primary cause of operational delays. The transition to a digital framework is designed to remove these time-consuming hurdles, streamlining the workflow for both the provider and the patient. In a strategic move to further integrate healthcare and welfare, the government recently transferred several key social welfare services from the National Social Protection Agency to Aasandha. This consolidation aims to unify the nation's healthcare and welfare frameworks, reducing the friction caused by divided institutional roles. Central to this digital shift is the 'My Aasandha Portal'. This platform allows patients and their representatives to use eFaas authentication to submit forms and access medical provisions electronically. The portal also serves as a centralized hub for information and applications regarding medical assistance programmes managed by various state agencies. These reforms are not only intended to improve efficiency but also to ensure institutional fiscal responsibility. Aasandha has faced consistently rising costs due to the high price of imported pharmaceuticals and the ongoing expense of treating chronic illnesses. By digitising the system, authorities aim to fortify the medical assistance framework and eliminate potential exploitation of the fund. Once fully implemented, the digital transition is expected to transform the speed and reliability of health insurance services, ensuring that Maldivian citizens receive critical medical support without the delays inherent in a paper-based system.
