An additional temporary mosque has been constructed in Gaza, Palestine, funded by donations from Maldivian citizens. The Maldives-based non-profit organization Khidhumaiy has announced that this marks the seventh mosque they have built in Gaza using contributions from Maldivians. The mosque officially opened on Friday night. According to Khidhumaiy, the purpose of these mosques is to provide Palestinians with spaces for congregational prayers and Quranic education for children. The NGO emphasized that their team is working under dangerous conditions but remains committed to delivering humanitarian aid on behalf of the Maldivian people. They also highlighted the transparency of their projects, with daily updates shared on their social media platforms. The mosques are described as a symbol of the strong Islamic brotherhood between Maldivians and Palestinians. The conflict in Gaza has resulted in significant destruction, with over 90% of residential buildings damaged or destroyed, and hundreds of thousands displaced. Israeli forces have reportedly destroyed 835 mosques and damaged 180 others, forcing Palestinians to gather for prayers in ruins or makeshift structures.
