Addu City Power Station Project Moves Forward With Generator Manufacturing Underway

Politics ·
Fenaka Corporation has confirmed that the manufacturing of generator sets for Addu City's new Central Power Station is currently underway, marking a critical step toward ending the city's chronic electricity shortages. Mohamed Afeef Hussain, the managing director of Fenaka Corporation Limited, stated that the project is a high-priority government initiative designed to provide a permanent resolution to the power instability affecting the region. The project is being executed by Definite Solutions, a Dubai-based infrastructure firm, which was awarded the contract on March 7. According to Afeef, the contractor has provided assurances that the facility will be completed by the end of July next year. The new station will feature a significant technological upgrade, replacing the current high-speed engines with modern, low-speed units supplied by the Anglo-Belgian Corporation. These specialized engines are currently being fabricated in Belgium. The comprehensive project scope includes the construction of a dedicated powerhouse and the installation of five 5.2-megawatt low-speed generators. Additionally, the development will feature a new fuel farm and bunkering services to ensure a stable supply of power to the city's grid. During a personal inspection of the current facilities, Afeef noted the challenging conditions faced by staff and the persistent threat of sudden outages. He emphasized that the government is treating the resolution of these issues as a priority and is working to expedite the project's completion. To ensure a seamless transition, experts from Belgium will provide on-the-ground training for the Fenaka Corporation team. This training program is designed to ensure that local technicians are fully prepared to operate and maintain the enhanced system by the time the generators are installed and commissioned.
