Adhaalath Party demands strict action after same-sex wedding video at Maldives resort goes viral
Local News ·
The Adhaalath Party has called for strict action against the resort and all individuals involved after a video showing a same-sex marriage ceremony at a Maldivian resort went viral on social media. Snapshots from the video show two men holding hands while sitting on a beach chair, appearing to take part in a symbolic wedding ceremony. The police have confirmed that an investigation has begun, stating that the act constitutes an illegal act under Maldivian law. In a statement, the Adhaalath Party strongly condemned the incident, describing it as an attack against Islamic beliefs, Maldivian culture, and traditions. The party urged authorities to impose the harshest punishment allowed under the law. The police stated that since Islam is the state religion, such acts violate religious and Sharia principles, laws, and social and moral standards, and have instructed foreign employees at resorts and guesthouses not to allow such activities.
