Ahmed Shafneez Appointed Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has announced the appointment of Ahmed Shafneez as Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation. Shafneez, from Bagichaage, S. Hulhudhoo, was approved for the post by the People's Majlis at a sitting held on the 19th of this month, with 55 votes in favour out of 56 members present. For the appointment, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had forwarded three names to the People's Majlis. They were Ahmed Shafneez of Bagichaage, S. Hulhudhoo; Ahmed Mausoom of V. Miaras; and Mariyam Jaidha of Kandugassdhoshu, K. Dhiffushi. As part of the vetting process, the Economic Committee of the Majlis interviewed the candidates and scored them. Under the criteria approved by the General Committee of the Majlis, candidates required a score above 75 percent. Shafneez received 96.20 percent. The committee approved Shafneez for the post and sent its report to the Majlis, which subsequently confirmed the appointment.
