Air Quality in Kudahuvadhoo Reaches Unhealthy Levels

Local News ·
The air quality index in Kudahuvadhoo City has reached 151, putting the city's air at a level generally considered unhealthy, according to detailed statistics published on the official website of the Kudahuvadhoo City Council. The level of PM 2.5, one of the most harmful airborne substances affecting health, has also increased. In response, the MET office has issued an appeal urging caution due to poor air quality and haze spreading across the central and northern atolls. Visibility has dropped to two kilometers in the northern atolls over the past two days, down from the usual ten kilometers, due to winds blowing from the northwest. When the Air Quality Index rises above 150, it typically causes adverse effects on everyone's health. Health authorities advise people, especially those with respiratory diseases, children, and the elderly, to be cautious when going outdoors during such times. Poor air quality occurs annually in the Maldives along with smoke originating from northern India, where air pollution is caused by vehicles, factories, and agricultural burning.
