Ali Hussain accuses President Muizzu of avoiding signature on Rasmalé Eagle Hills deal, says it was unconstitutional

Former MP and lawyer Ali Hussain has stated that the agreement signed by the government to hand over part of Rasmalé to Eagle Hills is a crime conducted in violation of the Constitution, and that President Mohamed Muizzu must have been clear on this fact. Speaking at the first forum organised by the 'Dhivehinnge Bin Dhivehinnge' movement last night, Ali Hussain said the President had sent a minister to sign the agreement because he was afraid of being held responsible later. He noted that a former Attorney General's Office opinion had already declared the deal unconstitutional and that the land laws do not allow this transaction. Ali Hussain said he had filed a case with the Supreme Court of the Maldives as a matter of public interest, and after the Registrar refused to accept it, he had applied for a review. He added that he had also filed a case with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). He called on citizens to exercise their constitutional right to assembly and protest without prior permission, and said that once people start using that right, the right result will start to show.
