Former People's Majlis member for the Kaaniendhu constituency and lawyer Ali Hussain has called on citizens to take to the streets to oppose what he describes as the current government's efforts to erase Maldivian nationalism. Speaking at the "Land of Maldivians for Maldivians" campaign held on Friday night, Ali Hussain said that although few people have taken to the streets today, everyone present is there with full courage to defend nationalism. He stated that it is necessary to raise one's voice against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's efforts to erase nationalism after taking office. Ali Hussain recalled discussions from his school days about the pillars of Maldivian nationalism, which include Maldivian citizens, the Maldivian language, history, culture, and Islam. He emphasized that Maldivian land is an inseparable and most important pillar of nationalism, stating, "After Islam, the most important pillar of Maldivian nationalism is Maldivian land." He urged that demonstrations must be increased and this voice must be conveyed to the government.
