Amendments proposing to facilitate homeschooling referred to committee
Education ·
Amendments proposed by Dr. Anara Naeeem, the member representing the Hura constituency from the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), to the Education Act to facilitate education for students who cannot attend school and obtain education at home or through homeschooling were referred to the committee today for consideration and research.
The bill was accepted with the agreement of 41 members who participated in the vote and has been forwarded to the Joint Committee of the People's Majlis on National Development and Infrastructure and the Social Committee for research.
Currently, the Education Act states that education is mandatory for every child between the ages of four and 16. It also states that it is the responsibility of the guardian to send every child of that age to school to obtain education from preschool education onwards as determined by the country's educational system up to the O-Level, and to enroll them in the educational stage designated for that child's age.
According to the amendment proposed by Anara, although stated in the Act, children who are unable to attend school to obtain education or obtain education under the homeschooling program due to disability are not among the children for whom compulsory education is mandatory. The amendment also states that parents must make efforts to teach children appropriately according to their disabilities and that guidelines must be formulated under the Education Act to consider the degree of a child's disability when determining that it is not necessary to take the child to school absolutely.
