Apple's $2,000 iPhone Duo Launches in Maldives Alongside Global Release
Technology ·
Apple has officially launched its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, at a price of around $2,000, and the device has already hit the Maldivian market through local electronics retailer L. Studio. The launch in the Maldives took place on the same day as the United States release, marking the first time a foldable Apple phone has been available in the country.
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch inner main display and a 5.4-inch external screen, powered by the A20 Pro chip and running iOS 27. Pre-orders for the device sold out within minutes of opening, pushing delivery dates to January of next year. To manage supply, Apple has limited purchases to two phones per customer in many countries.
Reviews have praised the design and durability of the hinge, but some have expressed concerns over the lack of a telephoto camera and the use of Touch ID instead of Face ID. Industry research firm IDC predicts that Apple will lead the foldable phone market by next year, despite competitors like Samsung and Huawei having introduced foldable models since 2019.
