Avaid College Chairman Abdulla Musthaq Rashid urgently seeks kidney donor for second transplant

Health ·
Avaid College Chairman Abdulla Musthaq Rashid has begun seeking a donor as he needs to undergo a second kidney transplant. Musthaq’s two kidneys first failed in 2010. After undergoing dialysis for one year, he received a kidney transplant from Sri Lanka in 2011. However, since doctors have stated that the transplanted kidney is becoming weak, he has traveled abroad for tests. Musthaq, who was currently receiving treatment in Bangkok, Thailand, stated today that after traveling to that country this month and visiting Bangkok Hospital for tests, doctors diagnosed him with renal failure. Consequently, he said he has started dialysis immediately. “Today is the day I need to undergo my second dialysis. If I want to save my life, it can only be saved by quickly undergoing another transplant,” Musthaq said. Musthaq stated that finding a kidney donor is not an easy task, and while all close members of his family are willing to donate their kidneys, it has become difficult at present to find a kidney donor within the family due to health reasons. Doctors have advised Musthaq to undergo a kidney transplant as soon as possible, even though his body has not completely weakened. Although his average weight is 59 kilograms, his condition deteriorated due to kidney failure, and his weight has dropped to 49 kilograms in recent days. “I urgently need a kidney and a quick transplant,” the father of three daughters said. Musthaq stated that many people have contacted him and sent messages upon learning about his condition. However, he said that due to severe illness over the past few days, he has not been able to speak properly. “However, yesterday and today, I could speak a little. But now I still feel that pain; I am enduring that suffering,” he said. Musthaq stated that while he is receiving treatment in Bangkok, Maldives Ambassador Fuad Taufique and some senior government officials stationed in Thailand have contacted him and are providing assistance. Musthaq, who has served the higher education sector of the Maldives for many years, is a person who ran a tuition center in Vilingili in 1998, before opening Avaid Tuition Center in 2005. Furthermore, he has conducted educational programs in various islands of the country. Avaid Tuition Center was converted into a college in 2013. Musthaq played a key role in establishing Avaid College and expanding its services to various parts of the country. Additionally, he has served as the treasurer of the Private Higher Education Association of the Maldives.
