Baarah Healthcare Waste Management Facility to Begin Operations This Month

Health ·
A decision has been made to bring the "Health Care Waste Management Facility" established in H.A. Baarah into operation this month, in a move aimed at strengthening the island's healthcare waste management system and ensuring the safety of the environment and of health service workers. The project is an important facility developed with the aim of safely disposing of hazardous chemicals and waste generated by healthcare facilities without causing harm to the environment. The centre, established under the "Eliminating POPs" project of the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, has been equipped with modern equipment. The Environment Ministry said the centre has been fully equipped with a modern autoclave machine and other equipment needed to safely sterilise healthcare waste — killing germs — and to dispose of the toxic and hazardous substances it contains without allowing them to be released into the environment. The facility is an important step taken to prevent environmental pollution by using safe technology instead of burning waste generated in the health sector. It is important work carried forward successfully under an agreement between the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and the Ministry of Health. With the facility's operations beginning this month, in addition to Baarah, hazardous waste generated by health service facilities in the region will be disposed of according to the most desirable and safe standards.
