Bank of Maldives Awards Grants to Five Community-Led Development Projects

Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced five organisations selected to receive grant assistance under this year’s Bank Fund. Each selected project will receive approximately USD 12,970 to implement sustainable initiatives designed to empower civil society and improve living standards across various island communities. The funding will support a diverse range of projects focusing on digital education, environmental conservation, and economic empowerment. In Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo, Dhidhdhoo Kurimagu will establish 'Hive,' a dedicated centre equipped with digital facilities to foster innovation and strengthen community connections through social activities. Environmental and educational initiatives will also be prioritised in Shaviyani Atoll. Unity Sports Academy will lead the revitalisation of Maamuli Kulhi, a freshwater lake in Funadhoo, to develop the 'Maamuli Eco Park' for conservation purposes. Meanwhile, the Blue Guild Foundation will establish a 'Maker Space' at the Shaviyani Atoll School in Kanditheemu, providing students with a practical environment to develop creative and technical skills. In Laamu Atoll, two distinct projects aim to improve local infrastructure and livelihoods. The Laamu Farmers Association will launch the 'Fahigovaan Value-Added Agro-Processing Hub' in Fonadhoo and Gan, a project specifically designed to help farmers increase their returns while adapting to changing weather patterns. Additionally, Kalaidhoo Wings will develop 'Kalaidhoo Wings Hiyaa' at the Kalaidhoo harbour. This facility will provide essential amenities for ferry passengers, including a waiting area, toilets, a small library, and a digital notice board to improve the commuter experience. The Bank Fund is an annual initiative by BML intended to support notable projects submitted by civil society organisations. By focusing on sustainable implementation, the bank aims to create long-term positive impacts within the Maldives' distributed island geography, ensuring that community-led growth reaches beyond the urban centres.
