Bank of Maldives Opens Applications for 2026 Eco-Friendly Community Grants
Politics ·
The Bank of Maldives (BML) has officially opened applications for the Bank Fund 2026, a grant programme designed to support eco-friendly community projects implemented by registered Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) across the archipelago.
The initiative focuses on four primary themes: education, environment, sports, and community development. BML will award MVR 200,000 (approximately USD 12,951) to five selected projects that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability and positive local impact.
This fund is part of the bank's broader strategy to promote inclusive growth and strengthen the capacity of civil society. Over the past two years, the grant has already empowered nine different NGOs to execute community-focused initiatives, bridging the gap between innovative local ideas and tangible societal benefits.
Mohamed Shareef, BML Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, emphasized that the bank believes lasting progress is built from the ground up. He noted that the Bank Fund is a reflection of the institution's dedication to enabling local organisations to turn innovative concepts into real-world benefits for their communities, expressing anticipation for the next cohort of sustainability-driven projects.
Registered NGOs and community clubs interested in applying must submit their project proposals via email by 14:00 on 14 June. To ensure a fair and transparent process, the bank has provided detailed guidelines and official application forms on its website to assist applicants in drafting their submissions.
