The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced that banks will be operational on May 28, providing limited services during the upcoming Eid al-Ad’ha public holiday period. While the government has declared May 24 to May 30 as official holidays for the occasion, the central bank confirmed that banking services will be available on May 28 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. This measure ensures that essential financial services remain accessible during the festivities. Despite the limited opening hours, the MMA has issued a critical advisory to the public regarding cash availability. The authority urges residents to withdraw sufficient banknotes and coins during the current week, warning that cash withdrawal services will not be available on May 28. This year's holiday schedule begins with Hajj Day on May 26, followed by Eid al-Ad’ha on May 27. The public holiday period will conclude on May 30, after which all government and private sectors are expected to return to regular operating schedules.
