Boduthakurufaanu Magu Road Expansion Opens to Ease Traffic Congestion in Male’

The first phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu road development project has officially opened, marking a significant upgrade to the infrastructure of the capital, Male’. The expansion aims to provide immediate relief for commuters and reduce the chronic traffic congestion that plagues the city's narrow corridors. Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef stated that the completion of this project demonstrates the government's commitment to good governance. He noted that the administration is prioritizing the essential needs of the public and delivering tangible results despite prevailing economic challenges. Under the first phase, five segments of the road have been completed and opened to the public. A key highlight is the 700-metre stretch from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Izzuddin Jetty, which has been fully asphalted. This development represents a historic shift in the cityscape, transforming one of the capital's most critical arteries. The engineering work involved partial reclamation of the lagoon to widen the route, expanding the road into a four-lane thoroughfare to accommodate higher vehicle volumes. In total, 1.145 kilometres of asphalt paving were laid. To address long-standing urban issues, the project also included the installation of modern drainage systems to prevent flooding and the creation of a dedicated parking zone capable of accommodating 500 motorcycles. Vice President Latheef expressed gratitude toward President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for his focus on high-priority development projects and his personal attention to the country's infrastructure needs. The project is expected to streamline the flow of traffic for residents and visitors traveling to and from the city, improving the overall efficiency of urban mobility in the Maldives' most densely populated area.
