Bollywood actor Ranvir Shorey receives death threats after criticising CJP protest; Mumbai Police respond

Entertainment ·
Bollywood actor Ranvir Shorey has received death threats in connection with his criticism of a street protest organised by India's Kokroch Janatha Party (CJP). The matter has now been officially submitted to the Cyber Crime Police and Mumbai Police. Ranvir shared screenshots of the threatening emails sent to him on the social media platform X. Among them, an email sent by a man named Raj Parihar used extremely vulgar language and threatened him, claiming that Ranvir's movements and the places he visits were being monitored and that he would be attacked when the opportunity arose. Ranvir tagged India's cybersecurity agencies "Cyber Dost" and "Maharashtra Cyber" and requested an urgent investigation into the matter, stating that he was receiving death threats from two email accounts. Responding quickly to Ranvir's post, Mumbai Police asked him to share details related to the matter. Ranvir thanked the police for their swift response. The threats began targeting him following a post he made criticising the CJP protest. Ranvir said that political parties should not express their opinions and display their power on the streets, and that they should do so through Parliament, elections and the courts. He also pointed out that blocking roads and obstructing public services and the legal system is contrary to the true spirit of democracy. The CJP held a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi last Sunday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar amid allegations of irregularities in revising the voters list. Film star Imran Khan was also among those arrested from Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan in connection with these protests. However, the police later released Imran Khan.
