Burials Suspended in Hulhumalé Cemetery Due to Water, Shifted to Malé Cemetery

Burials at the Hulhumalé cemetery have been temporarily suspended after water was found in graves when digging, the Malé City Council has announced. The council stated that when graves were being dug in the Hulhumalé cemetery, water was encountered at a depth of between eight and nine inches. As a result, burials have been moved to the Malé cemetery. The decision comes during the rainy season, which has previously caused similar issues. Prior to this, when the Malé Aasahara Mosque was being renovated and the Malé cemetery was closed, burials were being conducted at the Hulhumalé cemetery.
