Buru coach frustrated as strong performances fail to deliver wins in Dhivehi Premier League

Sports ·
Buru Sports Club have lost all three of their matches played so far in this season's Dhivehi Premier League, leaving their Spanish coach, Cristian Rodríguez, expressing frustration despite what he described as good performances. Buru, who were among the top four teams last season, have so far played Bis Buru Sports Club and Dhiydhoo — both of whom are newly competing in the First Division this season. Buru lost 1-0 to Dhiydhoo, and most recently lost 2-1 to Bis Buru, a match in which Bis Buru played with a red card and scored two late goals. In their next match, Buru lost 4-1 to Odi. "What we have is to keep working," Rodríguez said at the pre-match press conference. He said his team controlled the match until the 80th minute of their most recent game, and that they lost despite playing well. "Small things caused us to lose control. Bis Buru scored from a corner at a time when one of our players was down. Then from that point too, it was the same. That was a goal scored from the first chance that team got. Then again, in added time, another goal was scored from a very small mistake. We are doing everything we can to get a win. But it is not happening because this is football," Rodríguez said with frustration. Rodríguez said that if one looks at all the matches played so far, the picture that emerges is one of losing focus towards the end, and of chances being wasted — which he said is one reason every match ends up becoming a difficult situation. Rodríguez said that defending a 1-0 lead and having to face the final minutes is one reason it becomes difficult. In addition, Rodríguez said that in the moments when changes need to be brought to the tempo of matches, the absence of an experienced player could be a reason that makes it difficult to control the match. "Maybe, maybe," Rodríguez said when asked whether he would point to the absence of an experienced player. But he said that when that is known beforehand, there is no room to relax by thinking about it. Buru Sports Club's match this week will be played this evening against Gaddhoo Recreation Club.
