Buru Sports Club Beat Gaadhoo 2-0 for First Win of Dhivehi Premier League Season
Sports ·
Buru Sports Club secured their first win of the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League season on Friday afternoon, beating Gaadhoo Recreation Club 2-0 at the National Stadium.
Both sides went into the match in difficult positions, having failed to win any of their league games this season. Buru, who finished among the top four last season, had played Bis Buru Sports Club and Dhidhoo before today — both of whom are competing in the First Division for the first time this season. Buru lost 1-0 to Dhidhoo and were beaten 2-1 by Bis Buru, a match in which Bis Buru played with a red card and scored two late goals. Buru then lost 4-1 to Audi Sports Club.
With the changes to the Dhivehi Premier League format this season, home and away matches are being played, and today's game was Gaadhoo's second away fixture. Gaadhoo had previously lost three home matches — 2-0 to New Radiant Sports Club, 4-2 to TC Sports Club and 2-0 to Club Eagles — before a 2-0 defeat to Audi Sports Club.
No goals were scored in the first half, and Buru took the lead in the 51st minute. Haleel Gamal delivered an excellent ball from midfield in behind the defence, and Juan Eduardo Lecano volleyed it on target, sending the ball toward the corner of the goal.
Buru added a second goal in the 78th minute to seal the result. From a ball laid off in midfield by Ali Hamdan, Ibrahim Usama Hasan Majid worked it down the flank, and the powerful ball he sent into the penalty area went into the goal after striking the hands of Gaadhoo goalkeeper Bojan Vukmirovich.
