The Business Center Corporation (BCC) has provided professional consultation services to more than 700 businesses across Addu City and Addu Atoll over the last two years, marking a significant effort to bolster regional commerce.
According to statistical records, the BCC's local hub provided direct consultations to 709 commercial entities between October 2023 and April 2026. The corporation also conducted informational visits to over 800 local businesses and facilitated 277 training programmes and regional seminars. To better understand the national economic climate, the BCC collected detailed intelligence and profiling on 645 individual businesses.
These efforts have been integrated into a variety of high-impact activities, including the WDC Expo, the Creators Confluence, and specialized youth camps. The corporation also hosted financial literacy sessions during the MATATO Travel Conference and led 'Tourism Beyond Boundaries' business discussions. Further outreach included participation in the MNU Job Festival and awareness campaigns to help Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) register for national awards.
These initiatives directly support President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's vision to establish Small and Medium Enterprise investment zones across the archipelago. Addu City, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo have been designated as the nation's inaugural investment zone. This status will grant qualifying businesses full exemptions from land rent and income tax for three years, beginning January 1, 2027.
To further this economic strategy, the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade convened a dedicated summit from May 13 to 14. BCC representatives emphasized that with President Muizzu designating 2026 as the "Year of Productivity," the expansion of regional economic opportunities remains a top priority for the administration.
