CA Maldives Joins CAPA to Elevate Accounting Standards and International Recognition

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives) has officially joined the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA), marking a significant leap in the international standing of the nation's accounting profession. As the regulatory body for accountants in the Maldives, CA Maldives views its admission as a regional member as a critical milestone. The move is expected to enhance the visibility of the Maldivian financial sector and provide new avenues for professional development within the region. CAPA serves as the designated regional organization for the Asia-Pacific area under the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the global authority for the profession. By joining this network, CA Maldives aligns itself with prestigious accounting organizations from major economies, including Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Canada. This membership complements the institute's existing global footprint. CA Maldives is already an IFAC member, representing the country within a vast network of over 188 professional organizations across 143 countries. Additionally, the body maintains active memberships in the Asian-Oceanian Standard Setters Group (AOSSG) and the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA). Beyond these memberships, the institute has aggressively pursued bilateral partnerships and agreements with accountancy bodies worldwide. CA Maldives stated that these strategic alliances are instrumental in increasing its international recognition and creating tangible opportunities for the growth of the auditing and accounting profession domestically. By integrating into the CAPA network, Maldivian accountants will gain greater access to regional best practices and standardized frameworks, ensuring that the Maldives remains competitive and transparent in an increasingly globalized financial landscape.
