Chinese Ambassador says China’s development will create positive opportunities for the Maldives and the wider world

Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua emphasized that China’s continued development and progress will bring positive opportunities not only for the Maldives but for countries worldwide. Speaking at the Chinese Embassy’s Spring Festival Reception celebrating the Year of the Horse, Ambassador Kong highlighted China’s economic achievements, openness, and global responsibility as key drivers of shared prosperity. He noted that China’s GDP has surpassed USD 20 trillion, growing at five percent annually, and celebrated the successful conclusion of the country’s 14th Five-Year Plan. ‘With our own stability, China provides certainty to the world. With our openness, we create new opportunities for global development. With our sense of responsibility, we contribute to the cause of peace and progress for all humanity,’ he said. Ambassador Kong also highlighted the strong bilateral relations between China and the Maldives, emphasizing progress in key projects such as the China–Maldives Friendship Hospital, Male'–Vilimale' Road Redevelopment Project, and the construction of 50 island council office buildings. He underscored China’s commitment to the Maldives’ development, noting advancements in RMB services, agriculture, fisheries, clean energy, and youth development. Over 320,000 Chinese tourists visited the Maldives last year, reaffirming China as the Maldives’ largest tourism market. He concluded by expressing confidence in the enduring friendship between the two nations, stating, ‘May the ship of China–Maldives friendship sail forward steadily and bravely through the waves.’
