Civil Court orders RDC to pay Indian firm over MVR 11.7 million within seven working days

The Civil Court has ordered Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) to pay more than MVR 11.7 million owed to Lucky Global Projects Private Limited, an Indian company, within seven working days, excluding official holidays.
The order was issued by Civil Court Judge Fayyaash Shaathir on Monday, according to the report dated 13 October 2026. The case arose from disputes over agreements between the two parties in 2023 and settlement agreements reached to resolve those disputes. Lucky Global filed the case after RDC failed to pay money it was required to pay under the settlement agreements, seeking the entire sum at once.
After the claim form was served on RDC, the company filed a form admitting the full claim. RDC asked for leniency, citing its worsened financial situation, and requested that it be allowed to pay the money in monthly installments.
Because RDC admitted the full claim, Lucky Global requested a judgment without a court hearing. However, Lucky Global did not agree to RDC's request to pay in installments.
The court said that when the party entitled to the money does not agree to leniency, providing enforcement of the right in the shortest possible time is the legal principle. It therefore ordered that the proven debt be deposited with the Civil Court within seven working days starting from 12 October 2026, excluding official holidays.
The total proven amount in the case is MVR 11,784,581.63.
Lucky Global had also asked for MVR 20,000 as court costs, but the Civil Court ruled that the money cannot be awarded because it was not requested in the initially submitted claim form.
