Concrete work for the foundation has begun on housing units in Hulhumale Phase 1 as part of the affordable housing project run by BML Affordable Home Leasing Company. Foundation laying work commenced today on 360 apartments entrusted to Amin Construction. The project is a subsidiary of BML, created to achieve targets under the Inclusive National Affordable Housing framework developed by the Central Bank, MMA. The flats are sold through rent-to-own arrangements with small installments, and work is expected to be completed by mid-2028. Speaking to the media, BML Project Consultant Mohamed Sheraf stated that practical work has already begun on 3,260 apartments and that all design work for the Hulhumale Phase 1 flats has been completed. He noted that while foundation concrete work has started, the project is also expected to be completed by July 2028. "We aim to complete the super structure next year, then finish the finishing works the following year. We hope to complete the entire project by July 2028," Sheraf said. Ibrahim Nihad, Company Secretary of Amin Construction, stated that the work on BML Affordable Housing Phase 1 is progressing strongly and expressed confidence that the work will be completed within the specified timeframe. These are 3-bedroom housing units covering an area of 900 square feet. The government highlights that this project will become the first housing project to be initiated and fully completed, and handed over to its owners, within a single five-year term of government. The government also stated that this is one of the projects that will provide relief to the demand for housing in the country. The government is currently working on developing housing units in Vilimale in addition to Hulhumale, as part of the BML Affordable Housing project.
