Practical work is now underway on a new 50-unit housing project in Madaveli, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The development aims to address long-standing accommodation challenges on the island. The project was officially inaugurated by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef. The contract was awarded to Mims Construction Pvt Ltd on November 6, 2025. The ceremony saw attendance from the company's Managing Director, Saudulla Hilmy, and members of the Madaveli Council. According to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, the project will deliver 50 three-bedroom housing units. Construction is scheduled for completion within 450 days. This initiative follows a pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a prior community outreach visit. He had assured residents that practical work would begin on their priorities, which include land reclamation, shore protection, and housing. The government has consistently emphasised that resolving housing shortages on the island remains a significant priority.
