Criminal Court Cancels Sentencing Session for Ex-President Yameen in Bribery Case
Politics ·
The Criminal Court has cancelled the sentencing session scheduled for tomorrow in the bribery case against former President Abdulla Yameen concerning the lease of Fullegiri. The court had concluded hearings earlier this month on charges that Yameen accepted one million US dollars as a bribe for granting the lease of Fullegiri during his tenure and laundered the funds. The verdict session has now been cancelled. In addition to Yameen, charges were also brought against Sun Construction Company, Sun Engineering Company, and Cric Riza. The two companies under Sun have been acquitted, while the case against Cric Riza has been sent back. Yameen is also charged in connection with the case regarding the disposal of Vaaraa as a lease, where an 11-year prison sentence was previously handed down but later annulled by the High Court, which referred the matter back to the Criminal Court for review.
