Criminal Court Orders 30-Day Detention for Former Malé City Council Member in Sexual Assault Case

The Criminal Court has ordered the detention of former Malé City Council member for Maafannu South constituency, Mohamed Aiman Ismail, for 30 days. Aiman was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a young girl on the third day of this month. When he was brought before the Criminal Court to decide on his detention, an order was issued to detain him for 30 days. In a separate but related development, former Foreign Minister and former President of the People’s Majlis, Abdulla Shahid, was also arrested on the night of the second day of this month on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child. The court has granted him detention for 30 days as well.
