CSC cannot act on political parties' requests under its regulations: Chairman Mujuthaaz

Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Mohammed Mujuthaaz has said that even if political parties make requests, matters cannot be handled however one desires because of the way the CSC's regulations stand.
Mujuthaaz made the remark in response to questions raised by Ibrahim Hussein, PNC member for the Fuvahmulah South constituency, during the submission of the CSC's 2025 annual report before yesterday's meeting of the People's Majlis Committee on Independent Institutions.
Member Ibrahim Hussein asked whether, when a civil servant's matter is brought forward, a political figure has used influence in a way that deprives the civil servant of their rights.
In reply, Mujuthaaz said that some political parties do get involved in certain matters. However, he said the CSC's regulations do not allow matters to be handled in that way. He added that while matters are being handled within the regulations, things cannot be done in whatever manner one wants, even if desired.
Mujuthaaz said the rights of civil servants are guaranteed within the CSC's regulations, and that matters are being handled under those regulations with as much fairness and impartiality as possible.
"I want to ask from your side whether it is appropriate for Majlis members to involve themselves with Commission members in such and such a matter; whether, in such and such a matter, such and such a person saying 'take him' is the best course; and if that is not so, we are working with justice, impartiality and within the rules to secure the rights of all staff as well as possible; the Civil Service rules are rules that greatly secure these matters, and if any party says that such and such a thing should be done for such and such a person, it is not something we are able to do," Mujuthaaz said.
