Customs Seizes Over 6kg of Synthetic Cathinone Hidden in Air Cargo at VIA

Maldives Customs Service has seized more than six kilograms of synthetic cathinone hidden in an air freight shipment at Velana International Airport (VIA). In a statement today, Customs said the drugs were recovered on the 24th of last month after officers suspected that the air cargo shipment brought into the Maldives contained concealed narcotics and subjected it to further inspection. Customs did not disclose the country from which the shipment originated. The seizure is part of ongoing Customs operations to intercept drugs smuggled into the Maldives by air and sea, including through postal parcels and from arriving passengers.
