Defence Minister Hassan Rasheed Reviews Strategic Military Installations in Southern Maldives

Defence and National Service Minister Hassan Rasheed has concluded a two-day inspection tour of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Southern Area, focusing on operational readiness and infrastructure development in the nation's southernmost regions. The visit began at the Gan Air Station, where the Minister received comprehensive briefings on the MNDF Air Corps' daily operations. During the session, Minister Rasheed evaluated the measures currently in place to secure the Maldives' airspace and maritime boundaries, while discussing fleet readiness and logistics challenges directly with airmen. Continuing his tour in Addu City, the Minister visited the MNDF Southern Area Command. He met with ground troops and inspected several ongoing development projects, including critical upgrades to barracks and facility infrastructure. A roundtable discussion allowed service members to voice the specific difficulties faced by personnel stationed in the southern atolls, ensuring that command is aware of the logistical and personal hurdles encountered in remote deployments. The final leg of the mission took the Minister to Fuvahmulah City to inspect the Fuvahmulah Post. While reviewing recent construction progress, Minister Rasheed emphasized the strategic importance of the outpost in maintaining national security and thanked the garrison for their continued vigilance. This tour is part of a broader initiative by Minister Rasheed since assuming office to visit MNDF bases across the archipelago. By engaging directly with service members and assessing infrastructure on-site, the Ministry aims to strengthen the operational capacity of the armed forces and improve the living conditions of those guarding the country's territorial integrity.
