Defence Ministry and NDMA Collaborate to Strengthen National Disaster Management Systems
Politics ·
The Minister of Defence and National Service, Hassan Rasheed, has met with officials from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to discuss critical enhancements to the Maldives' disaster response framework.
The meeting focused on identifying gaps and implementing improvements to the current disaster management system to ensure a more resilient and efficient response to national emergencies. The dialogue emphasized the need for seamless coordination between the military's operational capabilities and the NDMA's strategic management.
Joining the discussions were the Minister of State for Defence and National Service, Aishath Safoora, and the Chief Executive of the NDMA, Hisaan Hassan. The collaboration aims to streamline communication and resource deployment during crises, ensuring that the state can respond rapidly to natural disasters or other unforeseen emergencies.
Since his appointment on April 15th, Minister Hassan Rasheed has embarked on a series of strategic engagements with various domestic organizations and foreign embassy officials. These meetings are part of a broader initiative to reinforce the Maldives' national security and defense infrastructure while deepening the institutional bonds between the ministry and its key partners.
By integrating the capabilities of the Defence Ministry with the specialized expertise of the NDMA, the government seeks to create a more robust safety net for island communities across the archipelago, which remain uniquely vulnerable to environmental and climate-related disasters.
