Politics ·
Defense and National Service Minister Hassan Rashid has stated that the President's defense policy is to preserve the freedom and sovereignty of the Maldivians, ensuring that they are not burdened by external parties and defending themselves independently. The minister made these remarks while speaking at the official ceremony for Victory Day. He highlighted that significant changes are occurring in the global security landscape and noted that there are many dangers to confront in a changing world. He stated that Maldivians are the oldest independent state in the region, and this proud independence is linked to citizens remaining steadfast together under the guidance of Islam. The Minister said efforts to enhance the capabilities of the Maldivian military are being carried out under this policy, with personnel being trained for land, air, and sea operations and work underway to acquire modern resources. He also urged today's youth to draw lessons from the soldiers who fought against enemies on November 3rd and to pray for their souls, noting that the martyred soldiers sacrificed their lives for the safety and security of the people, for the sake of religion and the nation. Victory Day, he said, serves as a reminder of the example set by past heroes, emphasizing that national interests must be prioritized, and one must prioritize the interests of religion and the nation ahead of personal desires.
