Health ·
A surge in Dengue cases has been reported in Addu City, prompting health authorities to issue warnings to the public. The Addu Equatorial Hospital has noted an increase in Dengue infections, with the majority of cases originating from Hithadhoo and Feydhoo. Dengue fever, a viral illness transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes, has seen a notable rise in infections due to stagnant water and improper waste management. Authorities have urged residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites by ensuring proper sanitation and using mosquito repellents. In severe cases, Dengue can lead to complications such as hemorrhagic fever, which can be fatal. The hospital has advised individuals experiencing symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, and rash to seek immediate medical attention.
