Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race Granted World Athletics Ranking Status

Sports ·
The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race, the largest running event in the Maldives, has been officially designated as a World Athletics Ranking Competition, organisers announced on Tuesday. The designation means that results achieved by participants in the race will be recognised in the international world rankings. This year's edition, scheduled for this Friday at Hulhumalé Central Park, has seen a record 5,500 runners register. Initially capped at 4,000 slots, the organisers expanded capacity due to overwhelming public demand. The race features half-marathon, 10-kilometre, and 5-kilometre distances, along with newly introduced team categories. According to Dhiraagu, the event is a key part of its corporate social responsibility programme, with this year focused on raising awareness and funds for child safety NGOs. The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is the first international running event in the Maldives listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar, featuring a World Athletics-certified course. The event continues to attract runners from across the Maldives and abroad.
