Diet and choline play key role in preventing cognitive decline, study finds
World ·
A newly published study has highlighted the role of diet—and specifically the nutrient choline—in helping to protect against cognitive decline.
According to a report published on 22 June 2026, the research analysed data from 3,739 participants across a wide range of ages, from young children to elderly adults, in order to examine the links between dietary habits and brain function.
The findings stress that nutrition plays an important role in preserving cognitive abilities as people age, and reference research from institutions including Harvard T.H. Chan and Johns Hopkins that has examined diet, lifestyle and brain health.
The report also references so-called 'Blue Zones'—regions around the world whose populations are known for their longevity—suggesting that lifelong dietary patterns in those communities may contribute to healthier cognitive ageing.
The research adds to a growing body of evidence that long-term nutrition is closely tied to brain health and the reduction of risks associated with cognitive decline.
