EC Introduces Immediate Withdrawal Option for Political Party Members
Local News ·
The Elections Commission (EC) has announced significant regulatory changes, enabling individuals to withdraw from political parties immediately through the commission’s main portal starting Thursday. The amendments aim to simplify and expedite both membership registration and withdrawal processes. According to the EC, political parties will have 30 days to process membership-related requests submitted through the portal, after which the individual will be automatically registered if no action is taken. A major change is the immediate removal of individuals from party registers upon withdrawal request submission. However, senior party officials must resign from their positions before leaving or joining another party. Political parties can also submit expulsion requests through the EC’s Simedha portal.
