Politics ·
The Elections Commission (EC) has published the voters lists for by-elections in four islands and opened them for complaints. The by-elections, scheduled for the 28th of next month, cover local councils and Women's Development Committees. They include the by-election for the president of V. Thinadhoo Council, which is being held after the Local Government Authority (LGA) determined that the position has become vacant. Also included are by-elections to elect members to the Women's Development Committees of Ha. Vashafaru, V. Thinadhoo, N. Kudafari and S. Hulhudhoo. According to the lists published by the EC, 185 people in Thinadhoo are eligible to vote, while 688 in Vashafaru are eligible. In Hulhudhoo, 2,903 people are eligible to vote, while in Kudafari, 653 people are eligible. The EC said the opportunity to submit complaints about the lists is open until 12:00 noon on Saturday the 24th of this month. The lists have also been published in the Gazette and on the Elections Commission's website. The EC said information on those eligible to vote in the by-election can be viewed by sending VR and ID card number to 1414. Parties wishing to submit complaints about the registry must submit them online through the EC's main portal. The EC also said that during that period, parties wishing to file complaints regarding changes and additions or omissions to be brought to verify the registry can submit complaints. In addition, when submitting to add a person to the registry, remove a person from the registry, or change information included in the registry, a copy of an official document proving the authenticity of the complaint must be submitted. Political parties wishing to submit complaints to the registry should do so through the Simedha portal given to the political party, the EC said.
